Faculty and Staff

  • Hope Beam has served as computer and business teacher at LHNE since 1998. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Vocational Business Education from Wayne State College and her Masters in Education from the University of Nebraska in Kearney. She currently teaches business classes, is Media Specialist and is faculty advisor to the FBLA. 
  • Phil Carlson was called to LHNE in 2007. He previously taught at Cannon Valley Lutheran High School in Morristown, Minnesota. Phil is a graduate of Concordia Seward where he majored in life sciences and received a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education. Phil earned his Master's degree from Concordia University in Mequon, WI in 2018. He currently teaches science classes and is the Quiz Bowl advisor.
  • Martha Cook  comes to us after retiring from a 35-year career teaching German and the physical sciences in Nebraska public schools.  Originally from Walnut, Nebraska in southwest Know County, Martha taught in Friend and Valentine before settling in Norfolk in 1990.  She was hired in the fall of 2019 at is teaching chemistry part-time, which she enjoys greatly.  In her spare time, Martha is a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none.
  • Pastor B.J. Fouts  serves the congregation of St. John, Battle Creek, and will teach two sections of junior Theology for the 2018-2019 school year.
  • Brenda Fowlkes graduated from Concordia, Seward in December of 1990 with a B.S. in Education. She previously taught art at LHNE during the first two years, 1997-1999. Since then, she have been subbing, taking classes, and continued making chapel banners for LHNE. Her and her husband, David have four children . She teaches Art classes, American Literature, and Practical Life Skills. Brenda is also the advisor of the Class of 2022.
  • Michaila Gansebom graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2014 with a K-12 Vocal and Instrumental Music Degree. She previously served as music instructor at Schuyler Community Schools and Riverside Public Schools, teaching band, marching band, choir, show choir, piano, and ELL Basic Music. She looks forward to sharing her love of music  with the Lutheran High Northeast community!
  • Kathy Gebhardt is a graduate of Concordia Seward with a math and physical education degree.  She previously taught at Lutheran High in Springfield, IL and at Iowa Mennonite High School in Kalona, IA.  She was in the first graduating class of Martin Luther High School in Northrop, MN.  She has been head volleyball coach at Lutheran High since 2007. She  will teach Pre-algebra and Algebra.
  • Dr. Amanda Hafer is originally from Schuyler, NE.  She is a licensed veterinarian who loves her family, students, animals, agriculture and Jesus.  Amanda is our new Agricultural Education instructor, FFA advisor, and Recruitment/Outreach Coordinator.
  • Andrew Keseman joined our staff in 2014 and is currently teaching World Lit., British Lit., and Geography. Andrew is also the advisor of the Class of 2019.
  • Linsey Keseman joined our staff in 2015 and is currently teaching English 9, Journalism and is our guidance counselor.
  • Perry Miller joined our staff in January, 2013, to serve as Director of Spiritual Life & theology teacher. A graduate of Concordia University in Irvine, CA, Perry formerly served at Los Angeles Lutheran High School in Sylmar, CA; Concordia High School in Tomball, TX; and Salem Lutheran School, also in Tomball, TX. Perry has served as a religion teacher, p.e. teacher, coach, Director of Spiritual Life, A.D., & choir director. He is also a graduate of L.A. Lutheran High School in Los Angeles.
  • Preston Sunderman was called to serve as social studies teacher in 2013. He teaches World History, U.S. History, and Government/Modern U.S. History. Preston is a 2009 graduate of Lutheran High, and graduated from Concordia University in Seward in 2013 with a B.S. in Secondary Education. He is endorsed in social studies with a political science cognate area. Preston serves as the coach of the speech and mock trial teams and is also the co-sponsor of Student Council. He is currently working on his masters degree in history through the University of South Dakota. Preston lives in Norfolk with his wife, Leah. 
  • Maria Sweigard taught Spanish at LHNE in 2000-2001, took time out to raise a family, and returned to LHNE in 2006. She is a part-time teacher of Spanish classes. Maria graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota.
  • Justus Utecht was called to teach mathematics at LHNE in the summer of 2019.  He graduated in May 2019 from Concordia University, Nebraska with a degree in Secondary Education Mathematics (7-12).  He lives with his wife, Rebecca (Blank), who is 2014 graduate of LHNE currently teaching in Stanton.  This year, Mr. Utecht is teaching geometry, algebra II, advanced math and calculus.
  • Fred Aufdembrink is our Development Director. Fred graduated from Concordia Seward, where he majored in DCE, elementary education, and theology; and minored in music. He served as Director of Children’s Ministry and Youth at Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison, Kansas; also at Faith Lutheran Church in Hastings, Nebraska. Fred has served at LHNE since 2006. He also serves as Development Director for the Lutheran High School of Northeast Nebraska Educational Foundation. 
  • John Robertsonserves as the Director of Operations, a new position that was added in 2018.  John will oversee all finances, human resources, facilities and grounds, board operations and committees, and will head up special projects including accreditation, school policy review, capital campaigns and strategic planning.
  • Darin Suckstorf serves as Activities Director and part-time teacher in physical education.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Concordia Seward, where he double-majored in physical education and mathematics. He recently received his Master's in educational administration from UNK. He currently teaches strength and fitness and is the activities director. He is also the head football and boy's basketball coach.
  • Daniel Sievert began serving as principal of LHNE after accepting a call in May, 2016.  He is a 1994 graduate of Concordia, Seward, with a B.S. in music and physical education. He taught seven years at Lutheran High School North in Macomb, MI, where he earned his Master’s Degree in educational administration.  He served as principal for five years at Sioux Valley Lutheran in Lakefield, MN, and ten years at Trinity Lutheran High School in Seymour, IN.  He and his wife Amy have two children, Nathan (grade seven), and Holly (grade four).  Amy graduated from Concordia, Seward in 1995 with a B.S. in elementary education.
