Eagle’s Season Opener- a Learning Experience A Loss to ‘Bear’
Well, we can’t say we didn’t try. On September 4th, the Lutheran High Northeast Eagles suffered a depressing loss to the Bears of Laurel-Concord with a score of 14-37. In the end, it all came down to execution, and sadly, the Eagles were a bit lacking during the end of the 1st quarter and close of the 3rd. The Eagles began with fervor and tenacity until the second quarter began. After the scoreless 1st quarter, things began to slip. With nine minutes left in the second quarter, the Bears put their first numbers on the board. Six minutes later, the Bears had brought in two more touchdowns to finish up the 2nd quarter with the score of 0-24. In the 3rd quarter, the Bears added another touchdown, and again with an interception with 8:26 left in the game. But, by that time, our Eagles started getting back in the game. Garth Spreeman had an amazing catch to get the Eagles close enough for Jordan Coolidge to drive it in, putting Lutheran High on the board. Then, with ten seconds left, sophomore John Jostes finished up the game with an eleven yard run to give the Eagles fourteen points.
At the end of the game, Lutheran High went out onto the field and discussed what happened and what needed to happen. “Execution was the biggest thing – we didn’t execute” said Coach Suckstorf to the Norfolk Daily News. No doubt, the Eagles are disappointed with how the first game went, but there is also no doubt that the Eagles are determined to bounce back, and in a big way. Next up, it’ll be a battle of the birds when the Eagles take on the Randolph Cardinals!
