There is no school on FRI 2/12 and MON 2/15, due to the annual Lutheran High Speech Invitational on Feb. 12; the annual Lutheran Schools Inservice at the Lifelong Learning Center, also on Feb. 12; and an LHNE Faculty Inservice Day on Feb. 15.
Our LHNE Speech Invite continues to grow in popularity. Dozens of students from our own Speech Team, along with many other schools, compete for top awards in a variety of categories, such as "oral interpretation of drama," "humorous prose," "persuasive speaking," and "extemperaneous." Lutheran High faculty, staff, students, and parents assist in a variety of ways, including supervising, judging, providing snacks and lunch for judges, and operating concessions. Our LHNE Speech Team is under the direction of Charlotte Endorf and assisted by Pastor Wolter.
Lutheran High faculty will join with other faculties from Christ Norfolk, St. John Battle Creek, Zion Pierce, and Zion Plainview for technology training at the Lifelong Learning Center at NECC on Friday morning, Feb. 12. Like many other professions, it's important for our teachers to stay up-to-date with current practices and learn new and innovative ways to use technology to enhance their teaching skills and knowledge of the content they teach our students.
The LHNE faculty will have its own Inservice Day on MON 2/15, in order to continue working on curriculum development. This is a major part of our School Improvement Plan for 09-10. Teachers have written learning outcomes for most of their classes. They'll continue working on those outcomes with a goal of completing them by this spring. That will enable us to apply for National Lutheran School Accreditation by the beginning of the 10-11 school year.
