Be Faithful

LUTHERAN HIGH NORTHEAST DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS
WED                      9-1-10

Today we begin a series of devotions adapted from “God’s Word for Students.” Today’s devotion is entitled “Light Switch.” Have you ever awakened from a deep sleep in a place far from home and had no idea where you were? At first you lie there, trying to remember why you are not in your familiar bed, trying to make sense out of your strange, unfamiliar surroundings, trying to erase the blur from your eyes long enough to figure out where your dreams might have launched you. Until a little more light enters the room, it’s hard to get your bearings. With even a glimmer of light, things begin to make sense. Life without God is life in the dark. Whether we’re talking about the void God filled with creation or some emptiness in your life, if God hasn’t entered it, it’s dark. Really dark. There’s a reason Genesis 1:3-4 tells us that God filled the dark void with light and then pronounce it good. Light dispels darkness. So where’s the darkness in your life today? Are you overwhelmed with the thought of that test or that coach you can’t seem to get along with? Maybe things aren’t going so great at work, or there’s conflict between you and a friend. Let God enter your dark world and light it up with His presence. As Isaiah 60:19 echoes, “The Lord will be your everlasting light.” If He can fill the emptiness in the universe, He can help you face your dark day. We pray:  Dear God, sometimes our lives seem like we’re just stumbling in the dark, groping for the light switch. Let Your light shine through our dark world today and fill the emptiness in our lives. Don’t let us ever forget that You are always with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
