LUTHERAN HIGH NORTHEAST DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS
WED      1/25/12

Today’s passage is Romans 13:12-14:  “The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealously. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.” Today’s thought:  Continuing this week’s theme of love doing no harm to its neighbor, let’s consider how sexual immorality harms others. It may be tempting to think that pornography is harmless. After all, it only affects the one viewing it, right? What many don’t know is that the women portrayed in pornography have often been hooked on drugs and physically and mentally abused to the point where they are forced to take part. Jesus died on the cross to save those who are involved in pornography. He died on the cross to save those who view pornography. When we indulge in the evil of pornography, we contribute to the hurt and degrading of both men and women. What does St. Paul say? Love does no harm to its neighbor. Today’s prayer:  Lord Jesus, we pray that You would forgive those who make and participate in pornography. We pray that you would forgive those who degrade others by viewing pornography, and we ask that You would grant us the power of the Holy Spirit to avoid this evil and love others by demonstrating what it means to live as one clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
