LUTHERAN HIGH NORTHEAST DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS
TUE 1/24/12 Today’s Bible passage is Romans 13:10: “Love does no harm to its neighbor.” Today’s thought: Many pro-life people mark the anniversary of Roe V. Wade in January. It was in January that the Supreme Court decided that a right to privacy could include a right to murder an unborn child for any and all reasons. The result? Literally millions and millions of unborn children slaughtered in the years since. When Jesus was asked, “Who is my neighbor?”, He told the parable of the Good Samaritan, when an utterly helpless victim was selflessly rescued by one who was not even a fellow countryman. When we think about the most helpless victims in our culture today, it would be hard to think of many or any others who are as vulnerable and helpless as an unborn child. Therefore, unborn children are our neighbors, we read from St. Paul that “love does not harm its neighbor,” and so abortion is murder in God’s eyes, and He calls us to do what we can to stop this evil.
Today’s prayer: Father, we confess that as a nation we have sinned greatly in tolerating the murder of millions of our most vulnerable people—people whom You love—unborn children. We pray that You would forgive those who have had an abortion. We pray that You would raise up people to continue to fight against this evil. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Remember to set aside a chapel offering for our Compassion International children tomorrow.
